Sai Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 16, 2026

Sai (the "App") is a language tutor you talk to. To answer you, it sends what you say to an AI model run by OpenAI. This policy explains what leaves your iPhone, who receives it, what is kept, and the choices you have. "I" and "me" refer to Chat Labs, the developer of the App; "you" refers to the person using it. By using the App you agree to this policy and the Sai Terms of Use.

Key Highlights

  • Your learning stays on your iPhone. Conversations, words, progress, your profile and the notes Sai keeps about you are stored on the device. There is no account and no cloud sync.
  • What you say goes to OpenAI so Sai can reply. Your voice, your messages and the context Sai needs (your name, level, interests and its notes about you) are sent while you practise. The App asks before the first time.
  • Sai doesn't keep recordings of your voice.
  • The text of conversations is kept for a limited time on my systems to find problems and improve Sai's teaching (Section 4).
  • I do not sell your information and I do not use it to train AI models.

1. What The App Handles

1.1 What You Say And Type

When you talk with Sai, practise a phrase, type to Sai or use Translate, the App handles your voice, the text of what you and Sai say, and words or photos you ask it to translate. Text in a photo is read on your iPhone; only the text is sent.

1.2 Your Profile And Sai's Notes

During setup you can tell Sai your name, why you're learning, your level and things you enjoy. After each call Sai writes a few notes to pick up next time, such as a plan you mentioned or a mistake to come back to. These are stored on your iPhone and sent with your conversations so Sai can use them. You can see and delete the notes in Settings, What Sai remembers.

1.3 Purchases

The Sai Pass is bought through Apple; I never see your payment details. Subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, which receives a pseudonymous identifier for your installation and the purchase data Apple provides.

1.4 Device Checks And Diagnostics

To stop the App's AI features being misused, it proves to my relay that it is a genuine copy using Apple's App Attest, and receives an anonymous access token. The App records technical events (for example, that a call started or failed) to diagnose problems; the words you say are masked in these events. The App contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDK.

1.5 Reminders

The daily reminder is a notification scheduled on your iPhone. No server is involved.

2. Where It Goes

  • My relay. Requests from the App pass through a relay service I operate on cloud hosting. It holds the API keys, applies limits and forwards each request to OpenAI.
  • OpenAI answers every request: live voice calls, transcription of your practice recordings, Sai's spoken words, translations, and the notes Sai writes after a call. For a live call the relay sets up the connection, then your voice travels directly between your iPhone and OpenAI. Calls are set up with OpenAI's storage turned off; OpenAI's API terms say it does not train on this data, and it may keep requests for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
  • An AI-monitoring service that records each request the relay forwards, including the text of conversations and Sai's notes (not audio), so I can find problems and check the quality of Sai's teaching.
  • Apple (App Store purchases, App Attest) and RevenueCat (subscription status).

Each service only receives what it needs and is engaged under terms that require it to protect the information. I will name any of them on request. I do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers, and I do not sell it.

3. Your Voice

The App uses the microphone only with the permission iOS asks you for. Live calls stream your voice to OpenAI and are not recorded by Sai. A practice attempt is saved to a temporary file, sent for transcription and then deleted. If transcription isn't available, Apple's on-device speech recognition may be used instead.

4. How Long Information Is Kept

  • On your iPhone: until you delete it in the App or delete the App.
  • Conversation text on my systems: up to 90 days, then deleted.
  • At OpenAI: under OpenAI's own policy, commonly up to 30 days.
  • Purchase records: as long as needed for subscriptions, refunds and tax.
  • Support emails: until you ask me to delete them.

5. Model Training

I do not use your conversations or your voice to train or fine-tune AI models, and I do not sell or share datasets built from them. I may read conversation records to fix problems and to improve how Sai teaches.

6. Your Choices

  • Consent: the App asks before it first sends anything to OpenAI. Without agreeing you can still browse your saved words and conversations.
  • Sai's notes: see or delete them in Settings, What Sai remembers, or forget them all at once.
  • Your learning: save a copy, reset a language or delete everything in Settings, Privacy and your data. Deleting the App removes it all from your iPhone.
  • Microphone and notifications: can be turned off any time in iOS Settings.
  • Records on my systems: email me and I will delete what I hold for your installation, if you give me enough to find it.

7. Security And Legal Disclosure

All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS, and the App pins the certificate of my relay. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. I may disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.

8. International Transfers

The services above run in the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside the country you live in.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them. A younger child should use it only with a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has used the App without one, contact me and I will delete what I hold.

10. Changes And Contact

I may update this policy; the date below shows the latest version. If a change affects what is sent or who receives it, the App will ask again. For questions, access or deletion requests, email support@chatlabsai.com.
